County Forest Wildlife Habitat Grant

Funds are available to finance county forest wildlife habitat management, with emphasis on forest wildlife habitat improvement, inventories and wildlife education. Funding is available at $.05/acre for counties that have lands in the County Forest Program.

Who can apply

Counties having lands enrolled under the County Forest Law, s. 28.10, Wis. Stats. [exit DNR] and s. 28.11, Wis. Stats. [exit DNR].

Eligibility

Eligible projects are limited to those approved by the local DNR wildlife biologist and county forest administrator and documented in the comprehensive land use plan for the county. Projects must be of critical importance in improving and/or enhancing wildlife/wildlife populations, wildlife habitat and public understanding of wildlife.

Deadlines

This grant is awarded annually in spring.

How to apply

Annual county forest work plans must be approved by the county boards and DNR. *Outside of the submission of the Annual Work Plan, eligible counties need not formally apply for this each year.
