Plastic Ingenuity, Inc. of Dane County has provided thermoformed custom packaging and extrusion services since 1972. Its Cross Plains facility is located on the bank of Black Earth Creek, a designated Class 1 trout stream. For the past 10 years PI has been proactive in implementing numerous storm water best management practices to reduce its impacts on Black Earth Creek.

Environmental activities

PI constructed their Mazomanie facility in 2000. Although located more than 900 feet from Black Earth Creek, PI instituted storm water best management practices to reduce the temperature of storm water that eventually recharges Black Earth Creek. PI has reduced their environmental footprint through energy conservation projects, reducing hazardous waste generation, active recycling of scrap material and filtering emissions from their thermoforming and extrusion processes, eliminating their need for air permits. PI is in the process of developing an environmental management system that will be the foundation of PI's superior environmental performance, and their participation in Green Tier will further solidify this important aspect of the company’s culture.
