Legislature Holds Public Hearing on Mercury Rule - The Assembly Committee on Natural Resources held a public hearing on the Department's air mercury rule on August 20, 2008. EPA proposes non-attainment counties for fine particles - On Tuesday, August 19, 2008, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed designations of nonattainment counties for the federal 24-hour fine particles air quality standard. Six Wisconsin counties (Brown, Columbia, Dane, Milwaukee, Racine and Waukesha) are proposed nonattainment counties. A public comment period will be announced shortly in the Federal Register and EPA intends to make final designation decisions by December 18, 2008.
